1971
Tom “Tommy” Robinson founds a 501(c)(3) Christian home for boys with the help of Houston area friends and colleagues. He also donates 10 acres of land in Hockley, Texas. His wife, Mrs. Tom Robinson names the organization “Boys Country.” The initial campus includes three mobile buildings, a metallic building and its first dormitory under construction
1980
Construction begins on a nearby 40-acre campus that will serve as the future home of Girls Country.
1996
Plans are initiated to pilot an Independent Living Skills Program for older youth who have completed their adolescent years at Boys and Girls Country. The Independent Living Skills Program is renamed the College and Career program the following year. Thanks to generous continuing scholarships, all students who graduate from high school at Boys and Girls Country will now have the opportunity to be sponsored through trade school or college and into a first job.
1998
Boys Country and Girls Country are combined on the Roberts Road campus and the organization is renamed Boys and Girls Country of Houston, Inc. The College and Career program moves to the former Girls Country campus.
1999
Boys and Girls Country establishes a $6 million endowment campaign to facilitate capital improvements to the campus and strengthen our future—a vitally important step in securing the financial well-being of our mission.
2006
The capital campaign concludes with the dedication of the Operations Center in February. The College and Career Campus is renovated in June and July to add housing for 17 new graduates from the class of 2006.
2009
The Penny Loyd Student Life Center opens in August, serving as a hub for campus activities – from education to recreation.
2011
New playgrounds are constructed, security lighting is installed, half-court basketball courts are installed and campus irrigation and landscaping are completed.
2012
The Joe H. and Sue S. Reynolds Foundation Chapel is dedicated as a mark of our faith and a place for prayer and reflection.
2014
The first Master’s Degree earned by a BGC student through our College and Career program is celebrated when Amy receives her MS from Sam Houston State University.
2015
Ground is broken on the first of 11 re-built cottages on campus in order to provide new, energy efficient cottages with the improvements we desperately need for our children and our houseparents.
2016
The 45th Anniversary celebration included the dedication of a memorial to the founders, Tommy and Jean Robinson
2017
The Tilman & Peggy Pool Cottage is and opened with generous funding from the Kelly Gene Cook, Sr. Foundation.
2018
The Hamill Foundation Cottage is opened with funding provided by the Hamill Foundation.
2020
The Woodforest Cottage is opened with financial support from the Woodforest Charitable Foundation.
2021
Boys and Girls Country celebrated it’s 50th Anniversary. The College and Career Campus on 2920 was sold and the College and Career residents moved onto the main campus located on Roberts Road Campus.
2022
The Executive Director’s House was built by Caldwell Builders and funded by the Hamill Foundation.
2023
New staff housing is opened on campus with support from HomeAid Houston, Trinity Signature Homes and Greater Houston Builders Association.
