Last week, Hurricane Beryl made landfall, causing widespread flooding and power outages in our area. Although our campus did not suffer significant damage, we were without power for five days as we adjusted our arrangements to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Despite these challenges, our children remained in good spirits, thanks to the diligent efforts of our houseparents and staff. The days were filled with crafts, sports and occasional music lessons. We were also blessed by the generosity of Lamar Church of Christ, who traveled from Paris, Texas to volunteer their time. Their youth group led devotions and games, keeping our children engaged and in good spirits throughout the week.

We met every day for campus lunches, making the most of our time together, sharing updates and supporting one another. Each morning, our program staff served casseroles and coffee to ensure our houseparents and children began their day positively. Local churches provided lunch and dinner during times we couldn’t cook, and volunteers offered cooling areas for rest when needed. During this time our operations staff worked tirelessly to ensure our campus was prepared for each day and had the necessary resources to keep our children safe.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl, our community has shown remarkable resilience and empathy. Their unwavering support serves as a testament to unity in difficult times, reflecting God’s love and compassion. Together, we will continue to move forward with gratitude and a shared commitment to serving children in our community.
