Last month, we hosted our annual Friend of Children Awards at River Oaks Country Club in Houston. This special occasion provided us with an opportunity to acknowledge and honor our devoted community partners, celebrating their commitment to the mission of Boys and Girls Country.
Award Recipients:
Church: Good Shepherd Church
Good Shepherd has been supporting BGC for over 25 years. They are a monthly sustaining donor and give to our children throughout the year by providing Christmas and birthday gifts as well as their annual pumpkin patch which benefits BGC.
Corporation: Woodforest National Bank
Woodforest has provided BGC with a number of financial services for many years. They are generous donors and provided the funding for the building of a cottage which opened in 2020.
Foundation: Herr Family Foundation
The Herr Family are faithful supporters of BGC. Since 2017, The Herr Family Foundation has been the title sponsor for our annual Spring Festival.
Professional Services: Dr. Tan
Dr. Tan is a highly respected provider in the Greater Houston Area. He has provided 22 years of dedicated mental health and psychiatric care.
From the Heart: Kristie Trice and Randy Stilley
Kristie is a board member whose contributions embody a genuine and heartfelt dedication to our mission. Her reliability in critical moments has earned profound trust and appreciation from our team.
Randy is a longtime supporter of BGC who has served as a Board Director and more recently as our Endowment Board Chair.
Volunteer of the Year: Michael Hagan
Michael serves as a mentor to our high school and college and career students. He is one of BGC’s biggest cheerleaders and spearheaded the Good Shepherd Pumpkin Patch event which benefits BGC.
Lifetime Friend: Janette McDonald
Janette is a founding member of Tallowood Baptist Church and the BGC Ladies Auxiliary, which held the first sidewalk craft sale for BGC. This event eventually evolved into the Spring Festival that we know today. Janette and her late husband, Randall, have been supporters of BGC since its inception.
Education Partner: TRIO Lonestar College
The TRIO program at Lone Star College – Tomball has been a valued education partner of BGC for over 10 years. Their program is devoted to assisting first-generation college students and differently-abled students. It provides specialized services such as individualized advising, tutoring and college transfer assistance.
Non-Profit: CR Buyers Group
CR Buyers Group are longtime supporters of BGC. They purchase and donate over 300 processed chickens from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to help feed the children in our care every year.
Business Partner: Corient
Corient has been a financial advisor for the BGC Endowment since 2018, providing valuable insights into the market conditions and have diversified our investment portfolio, lessening the impact to our portfolio during stock market turndowns. They have also generously donated to BGC over the years.
Builder Captain: Trinity Signature Homes
Clay and Heather Hudson were Builder Captains for the construction of our first duplex on campus, which houses essential staff members. They have attended many of our events and continue to seek opportunities to donate their time in serving us.
